Marilyn Monroe’s last sitting on display in Paris

Photo: The Bert Stern Trust © / Courtesy of the Staley-Wise Gallery New York

By 1962, Marilyn Monroe had established herself as a Hollywood heavyweight, finding fame for her performances both onscreen and off-screen. But a photo set taken shortly before her death later in the year proved that there was more than meets the eye to the infamous blonde starlet…

The year Marilyn Monroe died was a tumultuous one. Prior to her death, she made quite a few eye-raising appearances, including singing a very sexy “Happy Birthday” to then president of the United States, John F. Kennedy. But there was one moment in those last few tragic days, where Marilyn stripped down, both physically and emotionally, in front of the camera and showed the world a more vulnerable side to herself.
A carefully curated selection of these photos, taken by Bert Stern for Vogue, will go on exhibit at DS World Paris from 8 June 2017 to 6 January 2018. Of the 2,571 pictures taken over 12 hours in Suite 261 of the Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles, 59 have been hand-selected by Olivier Lorquin and staged by Hubert Le Gall to create the Marilyn: The Last Sitting exhibit.
These vulnerable yet glamourous photos will be displayed alongside DS Automobiles’ newest models from their latest collection, as well as some heritage models of the past, including a rare 1966 DS 21 Cabriolet US export, providing the perfect atmosphere of sensuality, glamour, and timelessness.

VIAN. 10 mars 1920 -10 mars 2018.

FERRARI 335S. Cars Artcurial just sold the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider for 32m euros

In customarily chaotic fashion, Artcurial’s Hervé Poulain just hammered away the Works Ferrari 335 S Spider for 32.075m euros (inc. buyer’s premium and taxes) after a tense and drawn-out bidding war at the French auction house’s Rétromobile sale in Paris…
We’ve not seen a saleroom so fraught with excitement (and crammed with people) since Artcurial sold the Baillon Collection this time last year. And the car they all came to see was no doubt the Works Ferrari 335 S Spider from 1957, which realised 28m euros on the hammer (bang on its lower estimate). Chassis 0674 was driven at the finest events by an extraordinary roll call of drivers, including Stirling Moss, Wolfgang von Trips, Luigi Musso, Piero Taruffi and Mike Hawthorn, and subsequently spent most of its life in the hallowed collection of Pierre Bardinon. It is not only one of the most significant sports-racing Ferraris in existence, but also one of the most desirable cars to ever come to auction.
Other highlights included Gianni Agnelli’s unique Ferrari 1986 Testarossa Spider (1.02m euros hammer – well bought given its credentials?) and the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA that, at 365,000 euros (hammer), exceeded its pre-sale estimate by an impressive 165,000 euros.

James Bond Spectre – the auction

Courtesy of Christie's, London

The 24th film in the James Bond series, Spectre, is to be released on Digital HD, Blue-ray™ and DVD on 9 February in the US and on 22 February in the UK. To mark the occasion, Christie’s is to present a unique opportunity to acquire memorabilia from the film — with 24 lots straight from the archives of EON Productions, as well as donations from Daniel Craig, director Sam Mendes, actor Jesper Christensen (Mr White in Spectre, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace), Bond producers Michael G.Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and artist Sam Smith, who co-wrote the official award-winning Spectre theme song. All proceeds will benefit Médecins sans Frontières (MSF), other charitable organisations, and the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).

The live auction on 18 February is led by an Aston Martin DB10, one of the series of DB10s designed and engineered by Aston Martin exclusively for James Bond, Spectre, illustrated above. Most of the DB10s were modified for use in the filming of Spectre, but two of those produced were kept back as show cars, for display purposes only, and this is one of them. The car is expected to realise between £1,000,000 and £1,500,000 and is to date the only DB10 to be released for public sale by Aston Martin and EON Productions. This is the only car that includes a special plaque signed by Daniel Craig and was displayed at the world premiere of Spectre at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Aston Martin has been associated with the James Bond franchise for over 50 years, with the DB10 model featuring in the latest Bond film, Spectre.
